About Danmark Skifter

42% of Danes want to try new alternatives to Big Tech. 68% would like to reduce their screen time. But far fewer act on it. Together, we can change that.

What is Danmark Skifter?

Danmark Skifter is a national campaign where thousands of Danes take back control of their digital lives – not alone, but together.

The campaign runs from January 1 to March 20, 2026. It starts with digital New Year's resolutions in January and culminates with The Big Shift Day on March 20, when all of Denmark shifts together.

The goal is to mobilize 15,000 Danes to make a digital shift – large or small – and show that there are other ways to organize our digital lives.

Why does it only work collectively?

You've probably tried it before: Decided to spend less time on social media. Wanted to switch to a messaging service you could trust. Wished for more time away from screens.

But habits hold us back. And network effects bind us to the same platforms as everyone else. We are where our friends are. Where our association communicates. Where we're used to finding content.

This only changes if we shift collectively.

When we shift together, new habits become easier to maintain. When enough of us shift simultaneously, alternative platforms gain the critical mass they need. And when we act collectively, we prove that change is possible.

How do I participate?

1. Sign up in January
Sign up at danmarkskifter.dk. You can choose a digital New Year's resolution, or just be part of the community. All participants are entered into the prize draw.

2. Get support from January to March
We're with you all the way. You'll get access to guides, overviews of alternatives, and inspiration from others. Shift when it suits you – or save your energy for March 20.

3. Shift together on March 20
On The Great Shift Day, we act together. Find events and workshops near you, where we help each other shift.

4. Stay committed after March 20
Four weeks of support ensures you stick with your shift.

Who is behind this?

Danmark Skifter is created by Digital Stemme – a new association working for democratic influence on digital technology through collective organizing.

We believe that civil society – citizens organizing themselves – can make a difference for a more democratic digital society. Digital Stemme mobilizes citizens for collective action and develops campaigns that strengthen our digital self-determination.

The campaign is driven by volunteers and supported by an advisory board with Astrid Haug, Pernille Tranberg, and Peter Svarre. We collaborate with Nordic Media Lab, and graphic designer Jens Thomsen has donated the visual identity to the campaign.
